This course is the study of the
theoretical, historical and contemporary issues associated public health
protection and safety. Students will learn strategy, implementation,
effectiveness and debate. Course topics will include a history of infectious
disease and its impact on human history, consideration of quarantine as a health
and safety measure in the modern homeland security strategy, and an overview of
the history of biological warfare.
2) Protecting Public Health: Case
Studies in Public Health Crisis

This course is an in-depth look at specific
public crises to examine the preparation, response, and recovery from them.
Included in the course are issues of leadership and decision-making,
organizational structure, and training, just some of the many issues that are
brought to bear when a crisis strikes a nation, state, locality, or community.
3) Protecting Public Health:
Critical Infrastructures

This course is the study of the private health care
sector’s planning process, response and recovery in the event of large scale
emergency. Topics include: business continuity planning, emergency operations
planning, safety/logistics planning, crisis response and recovery,
decontamination services, grants management (CDC & HRSA), JCAHO prep and
reviews, media communications, personal communications, family counseling, grief
counseling, and post-disaster employee and victim support. |
